Throat

Cough

Chronic cough, defined as a cough lasting longer than 8 weeks, is a very common problem encountered by Otolaryngologists and Allergist. This is often quite disturbing causing individuals to have difficulty sleeping and be uncomfortable in social or work situations.

Swallowing

Swallowing is the process of passing foods and liquids from our mouths into the stomach. We rarely think about swallowing – until it becomes a problem. Dysphagia is the term for difficulty swallowing.

Breathing

Breathing is a complex process involving the airway, lungs and chest wall muscles. Multiple organs systems must work in concert to allow for the passage of air into the lungs, where oxygen is exchanged for carbon dioxide.

Voice

Hoarseness is a very common complaint that usually resolves spontaneously over the course of days to weeks. Prolonged change in the voice can be caused by a more serious condition that requires further evaluation.

Throat Mucous/Tickle/Lump Sensation

Whether patients call it postnasal drip, phlegm, mucus or a lump, the feeling of “something in my throat” is one of the most common throat complaints seen in an ENT office. Mucus is critical for protection of body tissues and allows for safe, comfortable breathing. It allows for lubrication of the airway and filters out impurities and irritants that enter potential causing infection or injury.

Burning

A burning sensation in the throat and mouth can come from a variety of different sources. The most common sources are acid reflux disease, infection (including fungal), and allergies.

Paediatrics

Dr Shashi Singh also treats Pediatric ENT problems both medically (without surgery) and surgically. With a commitment to treating not just the child who is the patient, but including the whole family in the decisions on our treatment of that child. Physicians and families are partners in making the correct decision to meet each child’s needs.
